Dramatic decrease of victims armed clashes

Since the retreat of the armed militias loyal to Haftar from the vicinity of Tripoli and Tarhuna area last June, the number of victims of armed clashes in Libya has decreased dramatically

In its latest report issued on Tuesday (October 14th), HRS stated since January 2017 when it began monitoring victims of armed confrontations. It is the first time observe two consecutive months free of armed confrontations and no victims.

During this whole period HRS has documented 1998 victim of killing, wounded, detainees or war prisoners as a result of the clashes in different regions and cities of Libya

 The report published states that geographically, the incidents were distributed to different regions of Libya; the city of Tripoli topped the statistics of the number of victims 963, most of which was due to the armed confrontations that took place in the city and its surroundings between the forces of Khalifa Haftar and the forces of GNA.

Sirte was followed by 479 of the total number of victims of the clashes in the first six months of this year, due to armed clashes in the area between forces of Khalifa Haftar and forces loyal GNA.

The report confirmed that, through monitoring, it was noted that the number of civilian casualties during the reporting period was in the city of Tripoli and its surrounding and was approximately 70%. The number of casualties in general as a result of the shelling of militias loyal to Haftar and the mines and booby-trapped they left behind after their retreat.
