HRS calls upon to the Members of the HRC to support its recommendations

HRS called on the member states of the Human Rights Council to support its recommendations and urged the Libyan authorities to take them into account during the discussion of the Libyan national report under Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on Wednesday 11.11.2020.

Human Rights solidarity calls upon the Libyan Authorities to 

to revise the Libyan Nationality Law (Law Nr. (24) 2010) to end discrimination against Libyan women and their children and protect Libyans from arbitrary revocation of citizenship and bring the Nationality Law to conformity with Libya’s obligations under international human rights Law.

· to respect the basic rights of freedom of expression, association, and assembly. Civil Societies and Political parties are essential for promoting human rights and democracy and must be protected and supported.

· to join the international conventions and treaties which Libya has not yet joined, especially Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT-OP), the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (CED), the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (Rome Statute).

· to end the indefinite & illegal detentions without trial. All detainees, either be promptly brought before courts or released.

· to release all children who are being detained with one or both parents. Those who have relatives, should be transferred to their custody, the rest should be moved to the care of the Social Welfare homes. No child should be in detention, and

end the indefinite & illegal detention of migrants. The centers run by the Anti-Illegal Immigration
