Before the Human Rights Council. HRS expresses its concern about the growing violence, hatred and incitement speech in Libya

 

HRS expressed grave concern about the growing hate speech and incitement to violence and disinformation, targeting social groups based on their tribal or ethnic or regional, through the Media Outlets and social Media, which is threatening the social fabric in Libya and undermines any attempts to calm and end the political crisis.

Ms lamia fazli, from the International Institute for the rights and development – Geneva” and behalf of the organization of Human Rights Solidarity raised this concern before the Human Rights Council at its 43 session held in these days, during the interactive discussion under agenda item IX of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance, follow-up and implementation of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action

 Ms Fazil added “ Entire regions in Libya have been demonized through TV programs that extend for hours on satellite channels, resulting in escalation of violence and deliberate targeting of civilians.”

Ms Fazil continued “ Although hate speech and incitement to violence are criminalized in International Human Rights Law, we find it growing unchecked and today is practiced by most parties in Libya.”

She expressed growing concerns the impact of the absence of any real steps against this destructive phenomenon as, with the absence of any real steps against this destructive phenomenon, or even a condemnation from the parties to the conflict, both the government of National Accord , the Libyan government, internationally recognized, or the other of the self-proclaimed in eastern Libya.
