Report of the High Commissioner on the Situation of human rights in Libya

The Human Rights Council on its 43rd session 18 June 2020 under Agenda items 2 and 10 of the agenda of the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and reports of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-general of the technical assistance and capacity-Building

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights presented its annual report, on the situation of human rights in Libya during the period from January to December2019, and the effectiveness of technical assistance and capacity-building measures received by the government of Libya by the Division of Human Rights and transitional justice and the rule of law in the United Nations Mission in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner, which was presented to the Council of Human Rights pursuant to resolution 27/40.

The High Commissioner highlighted the key issues of human rights issues relating to the protection of civilians in armed conflict, in particular the impact of conflict on women and children, and the situation of migrants and refugees, the right to freedom of opinion and the right to freedom of expression and the administration of justice and support for victims of human rights violations. Also mentioned activities of the capacity-building activities carried out by the Support Mission in Libya and the implementation of a policy of due diligence in the observance of human rights regarding the support of the United Nations
