Urgent Appeal Two immigrant children separated from their mother

 

Human Rights Solidarity(HRS) received an urgent appeal for two Ivorian children who were separated from their mother after they were rescued earlier this month by the Libyan Coast Guard. They were on rubber boats heading for European shores. Fatim Kouny, 9, and her 5-year-old brother, Abu Baker Kouny, are still in custody today, 20th June 2018, at the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency (AIIA) “Ayn Zara” shelter in Tripoli.

According to a post[i] on the Facebook page of the “Ayn Zara” shelter, the management of the informed the representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Embassy of the State of Ivory Coast, but no one has followed the situation of the two children since that date, 13th June 2018.

HRS has received information that the mother of the two children is the in the AIIA “Souq al-Khamees” shelter, near al-Khums town, which is about 120 Km East of Tripoli. HRS’s sources also confirmed that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are aware of the mother being separated from her children.

HRS invites you to address the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in Libya and the Ivory Coast Embassy in Libya to end the suffering of the two children by reuniting them with their mother.
